What We Do:
We handle a wide variety of cases, including but not limited to:
- Requesting and/or responding to Domestic Violence Restraining Order matters.
- Paternity Actions which typically involve unmarried parents, child custody, visitation, and support.
- Dissolution (divorce) which typically entails not only child custody, visitation, and support but spousal support and division of assets and debts as well.
- Depending on the case, we may offer legal education, counsel and advice, representation at hearings, or help with negotiations to help our clients otherwise solve their family issues.
Family Law Access Project
The Family Law team also provides free legal assistance and document preparation at the Indio Public Library through the Family Law Access Project (FLAP). FLAP is a partnership between the Riverside Superior Court, the California Desert Trial Academy College of Law and ICLS, which offers free legal help on family law cases to those who are eligible. FLAP can assist with divorce, domestic violence restraining orders, paternity actions, child custody and visitation, child support and spousal support.

How we connect:
In addition to offering virtual and in-person appointments at ICLS offices, the family law team offers free family law support services through Legal Assistance to Victim (LAV) Grant for eligible residents referred by the Indio and Riverside Family Justice Centers, Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center, and Desert Sanctuary. The family law team also collaborates with the Riverside County Superior Court and the California Desert Trial Academy College of Law to offer free family law support services to eligible residents through the Family Law Access Project (FLAP).
