Veterans face unique challenges in our communities, which can oftentimes compound into complex legal issues related to housing, health care, and more.
Unfortunately, the reality is that many Veterans in our communities cannot afford legal assistance to help guide them through these issues, and many are facing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless.
With a new funding from the Legal Services for Homeless Veterans and Veterans At-Risk for Homelessness Grants (LSV-H) Program, Inland Counties Legal Services aims to better serve Veterans in our communities, to provide high quality legal assistance for civil matters at no cost, and to support veterans on the path to stability.
Under the U.S. Department of Federal Affairs, the Legal Services for Veterans (LSV) program aims to increase access to legal services to eligible Veterans through the award of grant funds and by promoting Medical Legal Partnerships and VA-affiliated legal clinics throughout the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
VA has awarded up to $300,000 in grant funding to 108 eligible organizations during a 14-month grant cycle, beginning August 1, 2024.
Some legal services that may be provided by ICLS through these grants are:
- Legal services related to housing
- Legal services related to family law
- Legal services related to income support
- Consumer Law
- Tax Law
- Protective orders and other legal matters related to domestic violence or intimate partner violence
- Legal services related to access to health care
We are working hand-in-hand with VA to help Veterans access the resources they need to exit homelessness or housing instability. We’re proud to provide critical support to those who have protected our freedom. When Veterans have the support they need to resolve their legal issues, they will often have more options for stable, permanent housing, and we get one step closer to ending Veteran homelessness.
