Since partnering with ICLS’s Gender Marker & Name Change Clinic in 2024, Latham has become one of our strongest and most trusted pro bono partners, playing a pivotal role in the development and expansion of our efforts on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ communities. Latham’s volunteer team – partners Kim Boras, Joshua Marnitz, Amy Quartarolo, Kevin Reyes, and Harrison White, and associates Georgia Bellett, Lauren Dickstein, Jazmine Gordon, Shelby Harrison, and Reilly Nelson – is unique in that they provide full-scope representation on name change matters, meeting directly with clients, preparing petitions, navigating court procedures, and seeing each case through to completion with compassion and professionalism.
For transgender and gender nonconforming clients, obtaining gender-congruent identity documents is more than a legal process; it is a profoundly affirming step toward living authentically. Latham’s volunteers approach every case with empathy and respect, ensuring that clients feel supported throughout what can often be a dysphoric and challenging journey.
Latham’s dedication extends beyond individual representation. In 2025, when the Riverside Superior Court began improperly denying fee waivers to otherwise eligible low-income transgender litigants, Latham attorneys conducted extensive legal research that helped ICLS successfully advocate for a change in court policy, removing unnecessary barriers to access for future litigants and putting an end to a concerning pattern of wrongful denials.
