At ICLS, we know that civil legal issues can uproot lives. It can be difficult for people to find the time and resources to seek help from an attorney, especially if you’re working, taking care of children, or if you have limited transportation.
To help meet our neighbors where they are, ICLS hosts Lawyer in the Library at locations across the Inland Southern Region. Lawyer in the Library is a national program that provides free legal consultations to library patrons. ICLS participates in Lawyer in the Library through partnerships with the Riverside County Public Library System, the San Bernardino Feldheym Central Library, and Crafton Hills College.
During Lawyer in the Library sessions, eligible low-income residents can meet one-on-one with a nonprofit legal aid attorney for guidance and assistance with a variety of civil legal issues.
ICLS advocates can help address the following issues:
- Housing cases, including evictions
- Expungement
- Public Benefits
- Consumer debt
- Elder Law & Simple Estate Planning
*ICLS does not assist with active criminal cases.
Lawyers in the Library program offers walk-in appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon arrival, check in with the librarian at the front desk. Clients will be asked to provide income information to determine eligibility.
Clients should bring all relevant documents related to their legal issue or case to ensure the attorney can provide the most accurate advice possible.
