Overview of Position:

Inland Counties Legal Services is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join our Accounting Team. Inland Counties Legal Services, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing legal services to low-income persons residing in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. ICLS targets services to seniors and those in the greatest social and economic need. Legal services are provided by attorneys, or paralegals under the direct supervision of an attorney. Levels of service include advice and counsel, limited action (includes negotiations and preparation of legal documents), as well as direct representation before administrative law and civil courts. ICLS provides legal assistance in a variety of areas of law. The eight practice groups are: Outreach, Consumer, Housing, Family Law, Immigration, Systemic and Impact, Health Law, and Public Benefits. Overview of Position:

Under the general supervision of the Accounting Supervisor and Chief Financial Officer, assists with program accounting, including all necessary financial reporting and functions and exercises professional judgement in planning and completing complex accounting work, subject to the final review and approval of the CFO.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Payroll: Prepares semi-monthly program payroll, making all changes and adjustment based on Personnel Action Notices, including preparation and transmission of direct deposit of payroll for payment to employees, as well as preparation of computer-generated manual employee paychecks. Assist in the administration of employee benefits. Liaison with human resources team.
  • Timekeeping: Maintains salary vacation accruals on a monthly basis. Reviews all staff time records to ensure accuracy of reporting.
  • Taxes: Preparation of payroll tax returns, property tax returns, business licenses, and other related business informational reporting. Maintain calendar of due dates.
  • General ledger: Prepares general ledger reconciliations.
  • Reports: Prepares audit schedules and information for the Chier Financial Officer. Assists in the preparation of federal, state, county, and other program reports as requested by the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Staff Training: Assists with cross-training of accounting department personnel and trains other program staff on accounting related matters.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be required by the Executive Director, CFO, or Accounting Supervisor.

Desired Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in accounting.
  • Must have demonstrated an ability to perform complex accounting functions in a fund accounting environment.
  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in nonprofit or governmental accounting.
  • Highly ethical in business dealings.
  • Ability to relate to the client community being served.
  • Must have an automobile to use for job-related duties.
  • California Drivers’ License and Insurance as required by California State Law.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Benefits & Compensation:

$26 to $33 Hourly
