Overview of Position:

Inland Counties Legal Services is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to support the Human Resources Team. Inland Counties Legal Services, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing legal services to low-income persons residing in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. ICLS targets
services to seniors and those in the greatest social or economic need. Legal services are provided by attorneys, or paralegals, under the direct supervision of an attorney. Levels of
service include advice and counsel, limited action (includes negotiations and preparation of legal documents), as well as direct representation before administrative law and civil courts.
ICLS provides legal assistance in a variety of areas of law. The nine practice groups are: Outreach, Consumer, Housing, Family Law, Immigration, Systemic and Impact, Health Law and Public Benefits, Tax and Bankruptcy, and Education. Visit our website at www.inlandlegal.org for more information.

The Legal Secretary provides administrative support and related functions to the Public Benefits Team at ICLS. This position is in a fast-paced environment with a lot of variation in assignments. This position provides comprehensive secretarial functions in a legal office environment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Litigation Support: Provides legal secretarial support to assigned advocates. Prepare case pleadings and case correspondence; contact clients, agencies and others; prepare
legal forms; mail legal documents; arrange for service of process, schedule clients and other appointments; and performs other assigned legal secretarial duties.
• Operate case file managing system; organize case files.
• Organize the team’s calendar and appointments; meet with clients to complete intake applications; prepare files and case records; upload and review mail; to assume delegated duties from the Practice Group Director, or other duties as assigned or may be required by attorneys or paralegals.

Desired Education and Experience:

• Computer literate with an ability to use a variety of software programs, including Microsoft applications, e.g. Teams, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment, e.g. copiers, faxes, telephone equipment, etc.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Minimum one year experience working in a legal office environment and familiarity with pleadings, court procedures and filings
• Typing accuracy of 50 wpm. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Access to highspeed internet connection for remote work if necessary.
• Ability to keep up with high number of files with attention to detail.
• Experience working on a case managing system, prefer but not require.
• Language: English. Ability to spell, proofread and read/write the English language will
be tested. Spanish language proficiency is a preferred asset.
• Ability and desire to work with the low-income community will be highly valued.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with clients, opposing counsel, judicial
personnel, and other staff.
