LGBTQIA+

ICLS envisions a world where all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression have equal access to fair legal protections, adequate housing, affirming healthcare, and all those rights necessary to lead fulfilling lives. To that end, ICLS’s LGBTQ+ Services Program provides free, culturally competent legal services and community education to residents of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Consistent with ICLS’s mission and funders’ requirements, we serve all those applicants who meet our agency’s eligibility criteria.  The LGBTQ+ Services Program operates without federal funding and is sustained through state funding, other non-federal grants, and the generous support of individual donors and community partnerships. To help us continue providing inclusive legal services, we invite you to consider making a donation or partnering with us in this important work.

What We Do:

In collaboration with ICLS’ eight practice groups, our LGBTQ+ Services Program provides the community with advice and counsel, legal education, and full-scope representation in all of ICLS’s legal service areas, including the following:

  • Assisting with name and gender marker changes, including petition preparation, filing, and court proceedings.
  • Helping community members navigate updating identity documents with government agencies like the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Social Security Administration, and the California Department of Public Health – Office of Vital Records.
  • Ensuring that people have control over their medical wishes through the preparation of advance healthcare directives.
  • Accessing health care & public benefits.
  • Providing legal guidance to small businesses & owners.
  • Defending consumers against predatory lenders and debt collectors.
  • Protecting families through divorce, domestic violence restraining orders, child custody, and other Family Law issues.
  • And other services (a more comprehensive list of ICLS’ services is available here).

Please be advised that ICLS does not represent individuals in criminal related matters, nor does the LGBTQ+ Services Program currently assist with discrimination claims.
