Our LGBTQ+ Services Program teamed up with IE Prism Collective (IEPC) for a highly attended name and gender change informational workshop on January 8, 2024.
Participants and community partners alike gained valuable insight into the California name and gender change court process. ICLS’s very own Staff Attorney & Pro Bono Coordinator, L Orozco (pronouns: they/them), provided much needed legal education and distributed pre-prepared packages containing essential court forms for San Bernardino County.
“ICLS understands how overwhelming this journey can be, especially for those without a legal representative to help them navigate the nuances of the court process,” says Mx. Orozco. It is with that understanding in mind that ICLS launched its Gender Marker and Name Change Clinic in 2022. ICLS’s LGBTQ+ Services Program is committed to bridging the access to justice gap for our region’s LGBTQ+ community by providing competent, culturally informed legal representation and education.
A huge shoutout to our amazing partner partners at IE Prism Collective. Together, we’re making a huge difference. ICLS recognizes that our region’s LGBTQ+ community, in particular our gender-expansive siblings, are under a barrage of anti-trans hate. For this reason, we thank IEPC for not only cultivating a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ youth in San Bernardino, but also for inviting us into their space with open arms and open hearts. And a special thank you to Dante Barrientos Diaz (pictured here), IE Prism Collective’s Community Engagement Coordinator, for his dedicated efforts in organizing this event.
